Specialist in Mental Health Disorders
Insomnia, Anxiety, and Depression
Acupuncture can have remarkable effects
on sleep imbalances related to stress.
In patients with anxiety disorders,
acupuncture increases night time melatonin
production and total sleep time. Patients
who receive acupuncture fall asleep
faster and experience reduced stress.
Acupuncture is quickly becoming an
alternative therapy for anxiety disorders. Scientifically proven to calm both the body and mind, acupuncture is also effective in treating severe depression and psychiatric disorders.

Among the 178 patients with depression I treated with acupuncture, 125 were cured (symptoms completely disappeared and they stopped taking any medicine), accounting for 70.22%; 39 were significantly improved, with only mild symptoms, accounting for 21.91%; 14 were improved, accounting for 7.87%. Among the 125 cured patients, only 12 relapsed after one year of follow-up, accounting for 9.6%
All the above conditions can also be treated with Chinese herbal medicine. For patients unable to visit the clinics for acupuncture, I offer online video consultations and can mail herbal medicines to them.
Typical Cases
Insomnia:
-
Female, 36 years old: Suffered from insomnia for over 7 years, experiencing restless sleep with vivid dreams, difficulty falling asleep, frequent waking, and inability to fall back asleep, resulting in overall fatigue, especially worse during stress. She relied on sleeping pills for sleep. After receiving acupuncture every other day, her symptoms improved significantly after the second treatment, and she was able to fall asleep by the fourth session with reduced fatigue. After eight treatments, she found it easy to fall asleep, and her fatigue disappeared. She was cured after 12 sessions.
-
Male, 47 years old: Experienced insomnia with vivid dreams for over a year, sleeping less than 4 hours each night, sometimes not sleeping at all, and had become resistant to sleeping pills. He felt fatigued, irritable, and anxious. After daily treatments, he noticed improvements in sleep after the third session, with fewer dreams. By the fifth treatment, he fell asleep quickly, dreams had almost disappeared, and he slept soundly. After 14 treatments, his insomnia was cured, and his fatigue, irritability, and anxiety had significantly improved.
-
Female, 62 years old: Suffered from insomnia for 8 years, waking up around 2 a.m. each night and unable to fall back asleep until after 4 a.m. She preferred not to have acupuncture, so she was given Chinese herbal medicine. After 7 days of continuous use, she no longer woke up at night and could sleep through until morning.
Bipolar Disorder:
-
Male, 52 years old: Experienced bipolar disorder for nearly a year, frequently losing his temper, being generally quiet and inactive, sleeping only 3-4 hours each night, feeling fatigued, and having no appetite. After receiving acupuncture every other day, his mood significantly improved after the second session, with sleep increasing to 5 hours per night. By the fifth session, various symptoms had greatly improved: he talked more, slept well, and ate more. After 12 consolidation treatments, he was cured.
Depression:
-
Female, 25 years old: Suffered from depression for 9 years, with an extremely low mood, severe insomnia, and suicidal tendencies. She had been taking large doses of antidepressants daily and had barely managed to complete her studies but was unable to work. Due to the side effects of antidepressants, her family suggested trying acupuncture. After the first course of 7 consecutive days of acupuncture, her mood and insomnia improved, and the dosage of her antidepressants was halved. After a three-day break, the second course led to a cure for her insomnia and stabilized her mood, reducing her antidepressants dosage to one-third. After three courses, she regained interest in life, increased social activities, occasionally felt low but could start looking for a job, and stopped taking antidepressants. For the following two years, she received acupuncture once a month and did not experience a relapse.
-
Female, 53 years old: Suffered from menopausal depression for 3 years, characterized by irritability, emotional instability, and suicidal thoughts, making it impossible to work normally. She also experienced loss of appetite, insomnia, and sensitivity to cold. She was cured after a month and a half of acupuncture treatment.
